Senior officials at Japan's ruling and opposition parties locked horns Sunday over whether the country should promote Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's Abenomics economic policy.
Ruling party officials stressed the need to promote the policy, while opposition officials criticized the Abe government for what they see as a weak economic recovery.
The House of Representatives, the lower chamber of the country's parliament, was dissolved Friday for an election set for Dec. 14. Abenomics is expected to be one of key campaign issues.
Appearing on television, Tomomi Inada, chair of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party's Policy Research Council, supported Abenomics. The policy has made positive achievements mainly on employment over the past two years since Abe took office, she said, adding that there is no other choice.
