He said the Government is spending enormous funds to ensure facilities enjoyed by children in low income groups.

New Delhi: The Government is ready to build a prosperous future for all children in all parts of the country ranging from the coastal areas to Colombo 7, President Mahinda Rajapaksa said.

Emphasising that children should be redeemed from the slum mentality, the President said everybody should join hands to ensure a bright future for all children in this country.

He said the Government is spending enormous funds and working hard with utmost dedication to ensure privileges and facilities enjoyed by children in other areas to children living in low income groups.

The President was addressing a meeting after vesting the Moratuwa- Angulana Jana Sevana Urban Housing Complex in the people yesterday (Nov. 18).

The Urban Housing Development Authority spent Rs. 1,255.5 million on this housing complex built by the State Engineering Corporation.

President Rajapaksa said at this time when a better environment is built for the country’s child generation they should try to protect the facilities provided. He said certain sections strived to perpetrate the slums and make people live in them forever for the sake of petty political gain.

“People should try to ensure a better future for their children without falling into that trap,” the President said.
