It was a huge relief for the Cook Islands Government Friday when the 2014/2015 budget passed with full support from members of both the Cook Islands Party and One Cook Islands Party.
Minister of Finance Mark Brown said he was 'relieved' when the Government passed the Appropriation Bill at 10pm Friday night.
The Bill was tabled last Wednesday and has received much debate from all sides of the House.
Brown said the Government plans to spend in three key areas; education, health, and infrastructure.
Underlying operational revenue is estimated to reach $123.203 million in 2014/15 and expenditure is projected to be $123.195 million, with a number of major new initiatives planned.
Brown wished to acknowledge the support of the One Cook Islands Party while there was widespread opposition to almost every aspect of the Bill by the Democratic Party.
"A resounding 'no' could be heard from the opposition."
"They were stalling the budget to try and score cheap political points."
But the Bill was on shaky grounds, as it needed support from all members of the Government to pass.
The Bill now goes to the Queenís Representative for Royal Assent before going back to Parliament.
Brown said the Ministry of Finance and Economic Management would now be busy issuing funding to various ministries and looking forward to the next Budget.
