About half of all R&D spending by South Korean firms goes into the electronics sector, while only 5 percent goes towards high-tech industries such as aerospace, a report showed Tuesday.
According to the report compiled by the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Evaluation and Planning (KISTEP), the portion of R&D investment by local firms on the electronics segment has been staying high, reaching just below the half-way mark for R&D spending over the past few years with 46.6 percent in 2011, 47.8 percent in 2010 and 45.1 percent in 2009.
