ISLAMABAD: A big hurdle in the way to e-government system has been resolved as a gigantic telecom company has provided free data centre facility to the government in this regard.
The telecommunication and information technology minister has played an important role in this connection.After the provision of this facility President House, Prime Minister Office, Parliament House, 28 ministries and other vital national establishments will be interlinked online.
In the first phase PM Office, Parliament, Ministry of Planning and Development and Ministry of Telecom and Information will be attached online. In this regard all the official working has been attached online in the Telecom Ministry in only four weeks time while the PM Office will also be linked online in three weeks.
Later the Ministry of Planning and Development and the National Assembly Secretariat will be attached online.
In this way the project of attaching online, started in 2004, will be completed in 2013. State Minister Anusha Rehman setting aside different official obstacles and red tapism took bold decision to achieve services of the data centre of the telecom company free of cost.
Though this is an interim arrangement however it can be made permanent.Sources from the Telecom Ministry said that no extra funds would be provided for the completion of the 2004 project.
Rs440 million had been allocated and issued for this project and from that Rs320 million were spent. For the first phase four important government centres will be interlinked online and later other 24 ministries and provinces will be linked online with the federal government.
It is also decided that for the safety and security of the government record and system from hackers this network would be kept separate from the internet system of the country.To run this e-government system the government is all set to appoint a project director, the post that was vacant since many years.
