A delegation representing the interests of women in the Pacific Islands is in New York for a meeting of UN Women. They are attending the organisation's first global civil society advisory group meeting. Sharon Bhagwan-Rolls, executive director of FemLINK Pacific, told Radio Australia's Pacific Beat program that their priority is to keep women's issues in the spotlight. "One thing of course is that we want clarity on what is the role of civil society as advisors to the UN Women agenda, but more importantly how do we influence the UN agenda," she said. UN Women is due to begin regional meetings, co-convened by UNICEF and other agencies, as part of a review of its operations. "It's quite important that the gender agenda and women's agenda doesn't get lost in the whole review," Ms Bhagwan-Rolls explained. "Any development agenda can't be sustainable if gender equality or the women's human rights framework is not included."
