NEW YORK (Jiji Press)--Japan submitted, for the 19th consecutive year on Thursday, a draft U.N. resolution calling for joint action by U.N. member countries to abolish nuclear weapons.
The resolution was jointly submitted to the General Assembly First Committee by a record 69 countries including the United States, which holds the world's largest nuclear arsenal.
The resolution underlines the importance that North Korea abide by a Security Council resolution demanding the reclusive nation abandon its nuclear program. It also expresses concerns about Pyongyang's uranium enrichment program and light-water nuclear reactor construction, as well as a missile launch in April.
