Turkmenistan Approves Law in Voting Rights Sphere |

The Majlis (Parliament) of Turkmenistan of the fourth convocation approved the Law "On guarantees of voting rights of Turkmen citizens," which defines main guarantees of realization of constitutional right by Turkmen citizens to participate in elections and referendums held in the country.
These documents correspond with provisions of the Constitution of Turkmenistan and legislative act in this sphere.
In August Turkmen parliament approved a law "On Referendum", which was developed given experience of holding election campaigns accumulated in recent years in the context of further expansion of the democratic principles of development of the Turkmen society, Turkmen government said.
The UNDP is implementing a project on cooperation in strengthening the electoral system and processes in Turkmenistan. One of the key areas of cooperation is to implement these standards in the national electoral legislation, as evidenced by the adopted laws "On presidential elections in Turkmenistan", "On Central Commission on Elections and Referenda of Turkmenistan".
