CIVIL servants living in remote stations and outer islands can now access their salary at anytime and from anywhere through a partnership between the Ministry of Finance and Vodafone Fiji. Civil servants are able to receive notifications on their mobile phones through the M-PAiSA service. Permanent secretary for Finance Filimone Waqabaca was at the signing of the partnership that will benefit more than 2800 civil servants across the country. "Many of our employees are based in remote islands or attached to rural development projects. For these employees, accessing their salary means leaving their job sites to collect their pay. It would be far more convenient for these workers to receive their pay on their mobile phones," he said. Civil servants can receive their fortnightly or weekly wages from any Post Fiji outlet or any M-PAiSA agent. "Vodafone is well-placed with its M-PAiSA platform to offer this new and convenient payment option to business and individual customers," Vodafone managing director, Aslam Khan said. He said Vodafone expected to see mobile payments reach the $17billion mark globally by 2013. Mr Waqabaca said government was pleased to embark on this new journey where they are assisting families of civil servants get access to their salary in a more convenient way. "This would mean improved productivity and better service delivery from government workers," Mr Waqabaca said.
