The South Korean government says that it will provide farms with some support for the losses they have suffered due to a toxic gas leak in Gumi, North Gyeongsang Province.

During a vice ministerial meeting chaired by Minister Lim Jong-ryong of the Prime Minister’s Office on Thursday, the government announced standards and recovery plans to support regions that have been designated as a disaster zone.

For areas that suffered damages in the beginning of this month, the government says that it will mandate that the farms get rid of all their agricultural produce and will provide some financial compensation for their losses.

Regarding livestock farms in the area raising animals for food purposes, the government will make it mandatory for them to cull the livestock and will also provide the farms with financial support. Meanwhile, the government will also ask that affected horticulture be discarded and will provided the nurseries with financial support according to market prices.
