Two groups, one promoting the rights of senior citizens and the other that of young people, are seeking to establish labor unions for their generations.
On Tuesday, a group for the aged submitted the plan to the Ministry of Employment and Labor in order to promote welfare for the elderly.
Another group representing the youth concurrently submitted its plan to set up a labor union to protect the rights of young people.
The groups argued that they are making such a motion to protect their legal rights, and asked the ministry to recognize the legal status of the proposed labor unions.
The government has rejected the request from the group representing the youth, which launched in 2010, citing that the union includes job seekers who do not have the right for collective bargaining.
The group for the elderly was founded last month.
