Indonesia’s Ministry of Transportation yesterday allocated IDR 110 billion (US$11.5 million) to the further development of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) programme, said Deputy Trasnportation Minister Bambang Susantono.
“The ITS programme has been deployed in 22 cities in stage across Indonesia since four years ago,” he added.
According to him, the new budget allocation is expected to help road commuters save thirty per cent of their transportation cost.
The road users will be able to avoid being trapped in the middle of traffic congestion by accessing to real-time traffic information provided by ITS system and make an appropriate judgement or an efficient alternative road for their journey, he said.
The ITS is the combination of transportation system integrated with Advanced Navigation System, Advanced Traffic Management System, Incident Management System, Electronic Toll Collection, and Advanced for Safe Driving. The system aims at improving the accessibility, efficiency and safety for land transportation including trains.
