The ICT Office of the Department of Science and Technology together with the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) launched the Philippine ICT Statistics Portal (PHICTS ) which aims to supply needed ICT statistics on demand for policy makers, researchers and the general public.
According to Louis Casambre, Executive Director of the ICT Office, the portal aims to provide linkages with statistics-gathering agencies in the country as well as international research bodies. Apart from providing numbers, graphs and matrices, the portal will serve as a platform to publish analytical reports to describe ICT development in the country.
At present, data available on the PHICTS include residential broadband statistics, market statistics for voice, mobile and data and other ICT related data from sectors like e-Health, education, gender, telecommunications, cyberservices, e-commerce, Business Process Outsourcing, e-government and cybersecurity.
The ICT Office is also collaborating with other government agencies such as the National Mapping and Resource Information Authority, the National Statistics Coordinating Board, National Telecommunications Commission, National Statistics Office and the University of the Philippines Information Technology Development Centre to build up the wealth and quality of data available in the portal.
Based from a report by the Philippine Information Agency, the PHICTS portal will be maintained and updated as often as possible to give reliable and consistent data for its intended users.
