The Health Education Bureau of the ministry of health launched an online web portal that aims to give health related information 24/7 to the general public.
The website which is available in three languages, provides information and as well answers to health queries posted by the public. The answers are given on a one-to-one basis with the help of health experts from the Health Education Bureau and consultant specialists across the country.
“It is the first time the country is to have, ‘a health service by Sri Lankans for Sri Lankans’ said the Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena during the launching of the “Suwa Saviya” website.
The Minister added that Sri Lanka now faces a speedy development era in modern technology where a tools for information search and dissemination in the health sector is imperative.
“This is the first ever website in the country that discusses health related problems facing the general public through various pltforms such as: e-mail, skype, SMS, telephone or chat.
Meanwhile, Deputy Director General Public Health Services Dr. Sarath Amunugama said the service had been launched as a collective effort involving a great deal of preliminary work done by a team of experts.
