With Congress MP and erstwhile United Nations Under Secretary General Shashi Tharoor as the Dean, Asia's first Forum on governance is being launched in New Delhi on Sunday to help young world leaders face complex challenges confronting the global community.

The Asian Forum on Global Forum will take a close look at the Asian region and at the challenges facing the global community. The primary objective of this forum is to provide an instructional and networking platform for young professional leaders to discuss, debate and challenge conventional interpretations of the existing complex realities confronting communities and leaders.

The Asian Forum on Global Governance is being set up by Observer Research Foundation (ORF), a New Delhi-based public policy think tank, along with ZEIT-Stiftung Ebelin und Gerd Bucerius, Hamburg, Germany.

Member of Parliament Shashi Tharoor said : "If Asia is emerging, it does so with complex internal challenges and external expectations. It is the intention of this forum to provide an instructional and networking platform for young professional leaders to discuss, debate and challenge conventional interpretations of the complex realities of this day."

ORF Director Sunjoy Joshi said the Asian Forum, modelled on the Bucerius Summer School, Hamburg, established over 10 years ago and which today has a global alumni network, would provide a unique opportunity for the young leaders to confer with high-ranking figures from the political, business and academic communities from around the globe, and especially from Asia.oshi said the participants included 3 parliamentarians, 12 diplomats, 9 executives from banking and prominent international companies, 10 from academia and media houses, 8 from non-profits and think tanks and 4 serving bureaucrats.

Fourtysix young leaders from different fields representing 29 countries are participating in the first Asian Forum on Global Governance, beginning on Sunday.

The ten-day Forum is taking place at the Oberoi Hotel in New Delhi.

The President of Timor-Leste, the Foreign Minister of Sweden, Law Minister Salman Khursheed , Minister of State for Communications and IT Sachin Pilot, Heads of industrial houses, 15 distinguished experts from China, United States, European Union and India in the areas of traditional and human security will be the main speakers during the 10-day Forum.

Joshi said the inaugural Forum itself received over 250 nominations out of which an international jury selected 46 young leaders. Applicants had to be nominated by heads of governments, and ministries, CEOs of major national and multinational companies, heads of universities, non-profit organisations and international organisations before being selected by the jury.
