The Information Technology Authority (ITA) website (www.ita.gov.om) was recently awarded an e-Government Web Award in the category of Official Governmental Website / Telecommunications, at the recently held second session of the  Pan Arab Web Awards and ARADO Awards. Mr. Abdulaziz Al Kharousi, Acting Director General of the Information Awareness Division, received the Award on behalf of ITA, in a ceremony held 28 September 2011, in the city of Sharm el Sheik, Egypt.

This important recognition is in line with the robust efforts made by ITA to provide timely and relevant information to the public through its website. Information on the website is easily accessible and is kept up-to-date, thereby contributing to raising awareness about key e.oman projects and initiatives being implemented by the Authority.

Considered one of the top awards programs, the Pan Arab Web Awards was created to recognize excellence in web design, development and showcase the creativity in a competition organized in different Arab countries for the best website in the Pan Arab Region. The competition aims to highlight the efforts of Arab governments that have established websites designed to provide services to citizens and residents or to provide information and transparency, based on the modern technology used by global e-governments.

It should be noted that this is the same organization who, earlier this year, selected Dr. Salim Al Ruzaiqi, ITA’s CEO, Dr. Salim Al Ruzaiqi for the Award ‘IT Man of the Year 2011’, for his outstanding achievements promoting the Arab digital world and for his unwavering commitment to the Digital Oman Strategy, or e.oman Strategy, and to developing the IT industry in Oman.
