Additional 1,367 tax payers form Eastern and Western branchs of the Ethiopian Revenues and Customs Authority (ERCA) joined Standardized Integrated Government Tax Administration System (SIGTAS) E-filing, a system which allows them to declare their taxes for the authority from remote locations.
The tax payers are from Eastern Addis Ababa Middle Tax Payers and Western Addis Ababa Middle Tax Payers who have already taken training from the Authority and have got accounts to use the system.
The system enables the taxpayers to declare their taxes remotely through etax.gov.et. Under the E-file, although taxpayers file online, their payments can only be accepted at ERCA's offices.
On average, in a monthly basis, 227 sales profit tax, 821 Value Added Tax (VAT), 349 income tax and 538 pre-tax report taxpayers are using the system to report the tax from their places without their physical presence at the Branch offices.
In 2006, CRC Sogema, a Canadian-based consulting firm developed SIGTAS for the Authority to be connected to regional revenue bureaus.
