Tanzania: TTCL Vows to Enhance Technology |

Several government ministries, agencies and departments have been connected to the National ICT Broadband Backbone (NICTBB), with the aim of achieving fast and sustainable development through e-government.
The government through the Ministry of Communication Science and Technology has constructed the national fibre optic cable network named as NICTBB with a view to achieve its ICT vision.
Talking to journalists over the weekend in Dar es Salaam, the TTCL Chief of Marketing and Sales Officer, Mr Peter Ngota, said that connecting various institutions to the fibre optic cable network would boost the government’s efficiency and attain speedy progress.
“There are several government ministries that have already been connected,” he said while giving an example of the ministry of Regional Commissioners offices. He said the government has invested in the fibre optic to serve in fast delivery of services to the majority of people.
“This is one of the ways to achieve the government’s Big Results Now and Vision 2025,” he said. He said several hospitals including Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH), Amana and Tumbi in Coast Region have already been connected to fibre optic cable to strengthen delivery of services through e-health.
According to the TTCL official, apart from the government institutions and hospitals, several banks have also been connected to strengthen financial services in the country. ICT is one of the government’s priority areas that will enable the country achieve her development objectives.
Mr Ngota said TTCL has decided to strengthen its customer service centers in terms of number and strengthen their capacity electronically. There are a total of 120 of such centers throughout the country. “This will make our data services stronger and serve more clients efficiently at an affordable cost,” he said.
TTCL manages and operates the National ICT Broadband Backbone (NICTBB) on behalf of the government of Tanzania through the Ministry of Communication, Science and Technology. The infrastructure will enhance usage of ICT applications for sustainable social-economic development, including implementation of e-government, e-learning, e-health, and e-commerce.
Also TTCL seeks to provide access to international submarine fibre optic cables (EASSY and SEACOM) at their landing point in Dar es Salaam to all landlocked neighboring countries for international connectivity.
The vision of the company is to make Tanzania a hub of ICT infrastructure and solutions that enhance sustainable socio-economic development and accelerated poverty reduction both nationally and globally.
Last week, the company was commended for a job well done during a recent visit of the United States of America (USA) President, Barack Obama. TTCL provided all communication services to the USA’s Presidential team for the whole period they were in Tanzania.
