“Whether it is the eradication of poverty and economic inequality or the promotion of international understanding and peace, we know that the delivery of high quality education is central to the well being of any society”, he said.
Dr. Bunwaree expressed his conviction that the conference will provide participants with the platform to sharpen their understanding of the critical issues in education in their respective countries and serve as a forum for sharing lesson and pulling together resources and expertise.
It is important to take cognizance of the different viewpoints that will emerge and crystallise them into a new strategy on which the Commonwealth will be working for the post-2015 development agenda, he added.
According to the Minister, the purpose that unites us all is how to meet the training needs, innovation and challenges when we reckon that most jobs that will be needed 20 years from now do not exist today.
“What makes the whole scenario different today is that the 21st century posits new challenges; it demands of our educational institutions the ability to inculcate in our learners the skills and attitudes - including problem solving skills, flexibility, agility, resourcefulness, collaboration and teamwork - that will enable them to operate in a knowledge–driven society”, he said.
The 18 CCEM, according to Minister Bunwaree, is an ideal opportunity to look forward and face this major challenge awaiting all our societies. It is the right time to make the post-2015 agenda and draw upon the collective success achieved and lessons learned, he stated.
