The classes will be conducted in 55 centres in all four provincial districts, namely, Bohlabela District, Ehlanzeni District, Gert Sibande District and Nkangala District.

Mpumalanga MEC for Education Reginah Mhaule urged learners to take advantage of this opportunity, as well as parents and members of the community to encourage all Grade 12 learners to use this opportunity fruitfully.

“This is an endeavour to prepare these Grade 12 learners for the forthcoming final examination following the successful winter classes, which were conducted during the June/July school holidays.

“It will provide them with an enabling teaching and learning environment for them to prepare for the final examinations. We attribute the previous year’s achievements in the Grade 12 results to these intervention programmes,” said Mhaule.

Last year, Mpumalanga was declared the most improved province in the country following an 8% increase in the 2011 Grade 12 results.

Mhaule said the province intends to improve the results by 10% from the current 64.8% to 74.8% in 2012. The department has set aside R2.2 million for this endeavour.
