- Technology Innovation, including Technology Laboratory, which will support technology evaluation and certification, build and support technology innovation, and establish and maintain a technology catalogue for the SITA Operational Centre and Supply Chain Management functions.
- Software Innovation unit that will develop eGovernment applications through the use of FOSS technologies, master data management and messaging hubs to integrate government data sets, with a focus on software-as-a-service and mobile telecommunication technologies. This unit will also be responsible for SITA’s Java Innovation Group Software Development Workbench for rapid application development.
Software Development Challenge
SITA has initiated a software development challenge called Lethla la Diakanyo, or “Season of Ideas” to create an awareness of SITA as an agency of government and to showcase the creative talents in the country.
Individuals or teams of individuals are invited to develop innovative, creative, functional and original applications for use by Government and the citizens of South Africa by using open source software and publically-available datasets.
There are three cash prizes on offer:
- 1st prize: R150,000
- 2nd prize: R75,000
- 3rd prize: R25,000
