While the economy on the surface appears to be growing in 2014, we are now living in the era of sequestration, with Federal government budgets tightening, even impacting the purse strings of state and local governments. And as a result, employees are doing more with fewer resources. The initiative to develop a public sector HR managers' network in Africa was first discussed at the 2007 IPMA-HR International Symposium in Cape Town, South Africa. A small group of participants at that meeting volunteered to work to make the network a reality. The first session of the training was held in Alexandria, VA for senior HR leaders with the Iraq Ministries of Interior and Defense. The Developing Competencies for HR Success training program was successfully completed and all of the participants have been awarded with their IPMA Certified Professional (IPMA-CP) designations.
