U.S.: Federal CIO Council Reorganizes
Source: cio.gov
Source Date: Friday, August 09, 2013
Focus: Electronic and Mobile Government, Citizen Engagement, Internet Governance
Country: United States
Created: Aug 13, 2013

Over the past six months, the CIO Council has been working to reorganize itself to better address the Obama administration’s priorities, changing tech trends, and evolving needs of Federal CIOs. Under the new structure, the CIO Council will become more agile in its approach to supporting key administration priorities and will continue to develop valuable tools, resources, and data for Federal CIOs and their staffs.

The Council will primarily operate through three core committees – Innovation, Portfolio Management, and Information Security and Identity Management. These groups will oversee both short-term projects and deliverables as well as longer-term initiatives aimed at informing Federal IT strategy.

The Council will continue to be informed by experts within communities of practice related to Federal IT, such as accessibility, privacy, and IT workforce as well as leveraging short-term, agile working groups to deliver needed products and resources quickly and efficiently.

Finally, the Council will continue to develop an enhanced operations capacity to develop and maintain valuable tools, services, and data for CIOs and other Federal IT workers to aid in knowledge management and information sharing across agency silos.

The reorganization of the Council comes at a crucial time in Government. Budgets are tight and mission goals require Federal agencies to leverage technology to the highest extent possible to deliver more efficient and effective services to the American people. By working within a structure that combines formal committees, short-term agile working groups, and communities of knowledge experts, the Council will help to address the most relevant and pressing IT issues across the Federal CIO community.
