The General Services Administration (GSA) today announced the launch of
real-time government notifications on its award-winning USA.gov website.
The website, powered by GovDelivery, is located at http://notifications.usa.gov and allows
the public to find, search, and sign up for real-time updates from the federal
government.
The menu supplies users with a live stream of content and a Twitter-like
search capability, as well as a filterable view of information and subscriptions
available across the federal government. Any federal agency can add its
notifications to the site, which can be accessed at http://notifications.usa.gov.
“Citizen service and engagement starts with effective proactive
communication, and GovDelivery is thrilled to be part of this innovative effort
to give the public better access to real-time information from across the
federal government,” said Scott Burns, CEO of GovDelivery. “Every day, more than
10,000 people sign up to receive information directly from the government
through the GovDelivery platform, and this new capability allows an even broader
audience to see and sign up for critical government updates.”
“This new service makes it easier for the public to see what new information
government is posting on any given topic in real time and makes it simple for
people to register ongoing updates on topics of interest,” said Dave McClure,
GSA Associate Administrator of Citizen Services and Innovative
Technologies.”USA.gov’s recently upgraded search functionality allows the public
to search for information across the entire federal government with ease, and
this new capability complements that broad search by allowing the public to see
the most-current federal updates on issues ranging from egg recalls and
emergency alerts to health reform and foreign policy.”
This new capability has two direct benefits for the public. First, anyone
visiting the site can search for information that is directly relevant to them
and see the most recent updates coming out from all participating federal
agencies. For example, a search on “Hurricane” might yield results from the
National Weather Service, FEMA, EPA, and other agencies responding to or
reporting on hurricanes. Second, once information of value is found, the citizen
can register to receive ongoing updates on the topic directly from the
appropriate federal agencies by email, SMS, or RSS feed depending on what
channels the agency is using.
