Javan Williams, Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs, was part of a five member government delegation which visited Canada on a study tour in the month of July. The visit is in keeping with the Public Sector Change Management programme which is funded by the Canadian Caribbean Corporation Fund.
The purpose of the visit was to look at the operation of the public service in the North American country and adapt their best practices while at the same time learn new ideas to help the reform process.
PS Williams described the one week visit as very enlightening and informative and noted it was a great experience to see how the public service operate in Canada as there are many things which can be incorporated in the public service in Grenada to improve its level of efficiency.
Some of the places visited included Treasury Board Secretariat, Health Canada, Canada School of Public Service, Department of Fisheries and Oceans and the Department of Foreign Affairs.
The other members of the delegation were Gemma Bain-Thomas Acting Cabinet Secretary, Aaron Francois Permanent Secretary Ministry of Agriculture, Nordica McIntyre Permanent Secretary Department of Public Administration and Rosemarie Welsh Reform Management Officer.
