Globe eGov to Collaborate Closely with PHL Govt

Taking on a bigger stake in the country’s ICT competitiveness, Globe recently announced the creation of its eGovernment unit, or eGov. This is the telco’s response to the government’s call for greater private sector participation in nation-building.

Globe Senior Vice President and Head of eGov Jesus Romero said that, “Globe eGov was created as the telco company’s response to the call of government for private sector participation. It is now ready to provide first-class ICT facilities to a wide scope of government agencies centered on taxation, procurement, customs, manpower, statistics, business processing and transportation, among many others.”

Globe SVP and head of eGov Jesus Romero: “We are now ready to provide first-class ICT facilities to a wide scope of government agencies.”

“We believe that the time is right for Globe to increase its participation in the public sector and the reforms being undertaken by the present administration, thus the creation of eGov.

“We will be working closely with the Philippine government as it delivers more transparent, accessible and better public services through easier link-ups of agencies,” he added.

As a key speaker at the recently-concluded 2014 National ICT Summit where Globe eGov was the Platinum Sponsor, Romero noted that this is the first time that the telco is participating in ICT-solutions integration projects in government, a break from the ICT solutions that Globe has been offering to private businesses in the past.

“We note the increasingly favorable sentiment of the international community, particularly ratings agencies abroad, in raising our country’s score in transparency and credit-worthiness. We are one with the Philippine government’s reform efforts to increase competitiveness and good governance.”

eGovernment is all about the utilization of ICT and other web-based technologies to improve and enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery in the public sector, covering transactions from government to citizens, citizens to government, government to businesses, government to government and government to employees.

“Globe eGov looks at leading solutions and industry best practices to help government enhance transparency and ease public access to government services.”

This early, Globe eGov has already won and is implementing a major government ICT-based project, the Philippine Government Electronic Procurement System or PhilGEPS, which connects all government agencies to provide procurement services for bidding out of goods and services to private sector providers.

Romero emphasized the difference between companies who are only after winning the contracts and those who ensure successful delivery. “We do not wish to add to the number of failed ICT projects in the past. The mandate of Globe eGov is not so much to win, but to deliver successful projects. “

The eGov team of Globe is also exploring other government projects under the broad themes of ease of doing business, financial management, and country competitiveness.

It is also actively supporting the government’s various ICT developments plans and programs including the 2011-2016 Philippine Digital Strategy, the iGovPhil Project, the Medium-Term I.T. Harmonization Initiative or MITHI and the 2013-2016 e-Government Master Plan.
