Colombo: The Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, currently on a state visit to Maldives and President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom presided over the signing ceremony of three Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) yesterday at the President’s Office in Male.
The agreement between the health sectors in two countries were signed by the Minister of External Affairs Prof. G. L. Peiris and Maldivian Minister of Health and Gender Dr. Mariyam Shakeela. The agreement was to exchange specialists and trained staff, training of nurses and provision of consultation services.
The second agreement between the Sri Lanka Board Investment and Economic Development Ministry in Maldives which is aimed at enhancing investment promotion between the two countries was signed by the Minister of External Affairs Prof. G. L. Peiris and Economic Development Minister of Maldives Mohamed Saeed.
Minister Peiris and Maldivian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Dunya Maumoon signed the agreement on search and rescue. This agreement will facilitate coordination of search and rescue operations in the sea.
Minister of Higher Education S.B. Dissanayake, Monitoring MP of the Ministry of External Affairs Sajin de Vass Gunawardena, Members of Parliament A.H.M. Azwar, Lohan Ratwatta, Udith Lokubandara, Ranjith de Zoysa and Thenuka Vidanagamag, Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga and Secretary to the Ministry of External Affairs Kshenuka Senewiratne were also present at the signing ceremony.
