Electricity generation amounted to 91.9 billion kilowatt / hours in Kazakhstan in 2013. This is 1.9 percent more than in 2012, Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and New Technologies Asset Issekeshev said at a meeting of the Kazakh Ministry of Industry and New Technologies with the participation of Prime Minister Serik Akhmetov on Feb. 6.
"Energy unit No 6 at Aksus hydropower station with an increased capacity up to 325 MW, a turbo-unit No 4 at Petropavlovsk TPP-2 with an increase in capacity up to 60 megawatts, as well as a turbo-unit No 11 at Ust- Kamenogorsk TPP with an increased capacity to 120 megawatts were upgraded," Issekeshev said.
"The industrial programme includes 14 projects in the electric power industry," the minister said. "Eight of them have been implemented."
"The energy balance until 2020 has been approved," Issekeshev said. "The share of generation from renewable energy sources will reach three percent and is expected to extend to 10 percent by 2030.
"Currently, the Ministry of Industry and Trade together with the Sovereign Wealth Fund Samruk-Kazyna and KAZENERGY Association are working out the concept of developing the fuel and energy complexes of the country until 2030 to determine the long term prospect of developing the energy sector and transiting from administrative control measures to market ones."
