Nepal: Education Minister Calls for an End to Political Intervention, Growing Violence in Education Sector

Minister for Eductation Madhav Prasad Poudel has called for an end to all kinds of political intervention in the education sector.

 

Speaking at a launch of a book ‘School as Peace Zones: Concept and Practice’ organised by Education Journalist Group in the capital on Sunday, he also asked everyone to help the realize the state’s commitment to the concept of ‘School as Peace Zones’.

 

He further said that political parties should do everything in their power to make schools as well as the entire educational sector peaceful.

 

The government had endorsed the concept of schools as peace zones about two years ago.

 

During the programme, leaders of various political parties including UCPN (M) leader Devi Khadka, NC leader Arjun Narsing KC and CPN (UML) leader Mahendra Bahadur Pandey reiterated their commitment to the concept of “Schools as Peace Zones” by unveiling a banner stating the pledge.

 

The book published by Save the Children Nepal talks about growing intervention of politics and violence seen in the education sector and the challenges seen in implementing the concept of “Schools as Peace Zones”.
