The Turkmen Parliament discussed a bill on "Turkmen citizenship" at a meeting of the Turkmen Majlis's fourth convocation, the Turkmen government said on Monday.

This document reflected the principles of Turkmen citizenship and the rules governing the body's relations with it. The conditions and procedures for obtaining and terminating citizenship were determined.

There is a clause in the bill which stresses that Turkmen citizenship is the stable legal relationship of a person with Turkmenistan, expressed by the totality of their mutual rights and obligations."

According to MPs, the adoption of this document will contribute to a positive solution of issues related to citizenship within the country and beyond its borders, the strengthening of Turkmenistan's international prestige, and the efficient activity of the competent bodies, improve the modern legal framework and national legislation system.
