Speakers at a dissemination workshop on Saturday stressed the need for coordination among the government, non-government organizations and private sectors to accelerate development in coastal, haor and char areas.
They opined that only coordination in duck and maize farming could accelerate development in climate vulnerable areas of Bangladesh.
Oxfam in association with GMark Consultant Limited organized the workshop on ‘Duck and Maize value chains study in char and, coastal and haor areas in Bangladesh’ at BRAC Centre Inn.
Director General of Department of Livestock Services Dr Mosaddique Hossain addressed it as the chief guest while Executive Director of Market Development Forum Zonayed Rabbani moderated the inaugural session of the workshop.
Programme Coordinators of Oxfam Anik Asad and Nurul Amin delivered welcome and closing remarks while Additional Director (Implementation) of Field Service Wing of Department of Agriculture Extension Department Special Shahid Ullah attended it as special guest.
Addressing the inaugural session Dr Mosaddique Hossain said there is no alternative but to coordination among the service providers in livestock and agriculture sector and said the development of coastal, haor and char areas will be accelerated if coordination is ensured among the service providers.
He urged everyone to work together to have greater impact of development in climate vulnerable areas.
Later in the technical session, Professor of Pathology Department of Bangladesh Agriculture University Dr Habibur Rahman and Professor of Department of farm Power and Machinery of the same university Dr M Monjurul Alam presented two separate keynote papers on duck and maize value chains respectively.
Representatives from departments concerned of government, non-government organizations, private sectors, farmers from different char, haor and coastal areas of Bangladesh took part in the workshop.
