The government has announced a set of energy-saving measures to deal with a possible power shortage this summer following the shutdown of nuclear reactors.
Under the plans, all public agencies are required to reduce monthly power consumption by 15 percent from a year ago and cut electricity use by 20 percent or more between 2 and 5 p.m. when electricity demand peaks.
Public agencies should also keep room temperatures no lower than 28 degrees Celsius.
They will also be required to turn off all their electric air conditioning equipment when the power reserve level drops below three million kilowatts.
The ministry also required 68-thousand buildings to keep room temperature no lower than 26 degrees Celsius this summer.
Twenty-eight-thousand companies or entities that consume a large amount of electricity will be required to reduce their consumption up to 15 percent during August.
With the measures, the government plans to increase the power supply by one-point-nine million kilowatts and decrease power demand by four-and-a-half million kilowatts. The expected result would increase power reserves to four-point-42 million kilowatts in mid-August.
