JAKARTA, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- A senior official at Indonesian finance ministry said on Thursday that the country's capital expenditure would only reach 80 percent of the budget of 176.1 trillion rupiah (about 18.2 billion U.S. dollars) this year.

"Capital expenditure would likely reach 80 percent of the budget, will not reach 100 percent. We are putting in efforts to make it reaches 90 percent of budget," Bambang Brodjonegoro, the acting head of fiscal policy section at the finance ministry, said here.

Indonesian Coordinating Minister for the Economy Hatta Radjasa said earlier that spending for capital goods procurement is highly expected to reach more than 90 percent of the budget by the end of this year.

According to the data issued by the ministry, total spending for capital goods procurement stood at 90.8 trillion rupiah as of Nov. 30, accounting for 51.6 percent of the budget, the Antara news agency reported.

With capital expenditure not reaching 100 percent of the budget, government's targets are feared to fail in developing the nation's various sectors as the capital goods are essential to facilitating government's efforts in the development programs.

To prevent such a situation from occurring, Indonesia planned to revise the existing regulation and to implement strategic moves aimed at improving the capability of officials in government's institutions, at the same time improving the roles of internal supervisors in ministries and government's institutions.

Implementation of the new regime aimed at making budget expenditure more efficient, Bambang said.
