OSAKA (Jiji Press)--The Osaka District Court ordered the government Thursday to disclose records of some of the Cabinet Secretariat secret funds used under former Prime Minister Taro Aso.
The suit by a citizens' group demanded the government make public how 250 million yen was spent soon after the general election in August 2009 by then Chief Cabinet Secretary Takeo Kawamura.
Presiding Judge Kenji Tanaka said that regardless of changes in government, there are matters that must be handled continuously in terms of national interest and cases for which spending is deferred.
The judge ordered the government to disclose receipts for public transport expenses that do not contain names of users and cashbooks that show information-gathering expenses under the then chief cabinet secretary.
The court, however, denied that the 250-million yen spending was illegal.
The ruling follows a similar one in March by the district court ordering the government to disclose records of secret funds used for information gathering.
