Focus: ICT for MDGs
Country: Azerbaijan
Created: Nov 20, 2012

Under the changes proposed to the law On the territorial system and political division, the new administrative-territorial units of the district will be named according to the name of the territorial unit's center and the city and urban areas - in line with the name of one of the adjacent territorial units, member of the committee on regional issues of the Parliament Tahir Rzayev told Trend on Monday.

The changes proposed to the law On the territorial system and political division mostly related to the creation of administrative units, their removal, the name and the definition of the boundaries.

The new law simplified mechanism for creating cities. Thus, after the adoption of the law a few villages or towns, together, can create a city.

Rzayev said this issue is important from the historical point of view and from the point of view of these areas' socio-economic development.

"For example, creation of the city called Devechi in the area would be commendable in terms of protection of the toponym after renaming Devechi region in Shabran. On the other hand, more funds are allocated for the development of the areas when the villages receive the status of the settlement and settlements - the status of towns. Development of administrative units is very important in terms of creating new infrastructure," he said.

Rzayev noted that the socio-economic development of Azerbaijan stipulates the creation of new cities.
