The Defense Ministry will send a senior Self-Defense Forces officer to the U.S. Strategic Command's cyberdefense division, informed sources have said.
The ministry plans to station an SDF field-grade officer from fiscal 2013, with the cyberdefense group to learn U.S. cutting-edge cybersecurity technology to boost SDF cyberdefense capabilities, the sources said.
In 2010, the United States established the Cyber Command, under the U.S. Strategic Command, to oversee the cyberdefense units of the army, navy, air force and marines.
At the end of fiscal 2013, the SDF plans to create a cyberdefense unit in the Joint Staff Office.
