The Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry will start helping people who were forced to evacuate after the outbreak of last year's nuclear crisis find jobs in their hometowns from fiscal 2013.
The ministry will provide job search support subsidies to eight municipalities near the crippled Fukushima No. 1 power plant.
The eight municipalities are the cities of Minami-Soma and Tamura, the towns of Naraha, Hirono, Kawamata and Namie, and the villages of Kawauchi and Katsurao.
Ministry officials said the subsidies will help cover the costs of job seminars, workplace training, and other programs such as orientation for former farmers now trying to launch careers as corporate employees.
To help increase jobs in the eight municipalities, the ministry will also support local companies seeking job applicants, the officials added.
The ministry will dispatch about five officials to the Fukushima Regional Labor Bureau, where they will work as part-time coordinators for employment support.
The coordinators will help municipal officials draw up business attraction and job creation plans that would qualify as projects covered by state budget funds for postdisaster reconstruction.
The ministry will also open a special job support desk for evacuees from Fukushima Prefecture in Tokyo, Yamagata, Niigata, Saitama and Osaka prefectures, where many disaster victims live as evacuees, the officials said.
The special desks, which will be established in Hello Work public job placement centers, will have consultants originally from Fukushima Prefecture, the officials added.
The ministry sought 550 million yen for these employment support projects in its budget request for fiscal 2013.
