Uzbek law enforcement bodies strengthen security measures on the eve of Independence Day, celebrated on September 1, acting deputy head of the Tashkent Main Internal Department, lieutenant colonel Bakhtiar Egamberdiev told media today. "The measures are directed to ensure peace and stability during the holidays and are being carried out according to the approved plan," he added. "Provincial bodies and relevant organisations pay special attention to the protection of public order, traffic and fire safety, prevention of emergency situations." He added that a large scale raid 'Cleaning - Anti-terror' project is being carried out. About 16 facts connected with drug trafficking were also being determined. Egamberdiev said that vehicles are being checked to prevent smuggling of firearms, explosives and drugs.
