The South Korean government lowered its forecast for this year's exports, as exports growth in the first half of the year slowed and the trade surplus shrank considerably.
The Ministry of Knowledge Economy announced trade numbers for the first six months of the year on July first, which showed exports had risen point-seven percent to 275.38 billion dollars compared to the same period last year.
Imports had expanded by two-point-five percent to 264.64 billion dollars on a year-on-year basis.
The trade surplus for the first half of the year shrank to two-thirds of last year's at ten-point-74 billion dollars.
The ministry slashed its exports growth forecast to three-point-five percent annually to 574.5 billion dollars, attributing worsening outside factors, while expecting imports to rise five percent this year to 551 billion dollars.
