Government agencies have scrapped or suspended 17 public works projects, the Internal Affairs and Communications Ministry's fiscal 2011 policy review report showed Friday.
The 17 projects, worth about 274.6 billion yen in total, were among 720 projects subject to assessment because they have not been started five years after approval or have not been completed 10 years after launching.
As a result, funds totaling 226.7 billion yen were left unused, the report said.
Ten of the 17 projects, worth 253.3 billion yen, were for the Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Ministry.
Six projects worth 21 billion yen were for the Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Ministry, and one, worth 100 million yen, was for the Foreign Ministry.
