Nearly six out of every 10 households in South Korea are reportedly on the brink of crisis due to issues including disease, debt, unemployment and education.
The Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs said in its policy report on Korean families that 58 percent of the 17-million 339-thousand households surveyed replied that they are in a state of crisis.
Twenty-three percent of the respondents cited poor health of their family members as the main reason they were struggling, while 22 percent cited financial difficulties. Another four-point-seven percent said unemployment in their family was the main cause for concern.
Only 42 percent of the respondents said they did not have any worries or conflicts over the past year.
The recent survey was based on a 2009 sample survey on seven-thousand households selected on the basis of where they live and their income level.
