Public servants are allowed to wear short pants at work, as public offices are required to maintain their indoor temperatures at a minimum of 28 degrees Celsius.
Seoul City government and other public organizations on Friday allowed their employees to wear short pants and sandals at work.
The government complex in Gwacheon also held the no-tie campaign to encourage public servants to wear cotton pants, sneakers and T-shirts instead of business suits.
The Environment Ministry said that for individuals who follow a no-tie, casual dress code, indoor temperatures can feel up to two degrees Celsius cooler, thus saving one-point-97 million tons of greenhouse gases a year.
