With many Singaporeans now turning to the private education sector to upgrade their skills and qualifications, there is a need to ensure that they receive a quality education.
Two new initiatives from the Council of Private Education will be put in place to help them ensure that students receive a quality education from these institutes.
The first encourages smaller private education to use information and communication technology to improve their school management systems.
The second initiative will be upgrade the skills of teachers in the private education sector through a Specialist Diploma in Applied Learning and Teaching by Republic Polytechnic.
The diploma will enhance the pedagogy and instructional skills of teachers in the private education sector.
Mr Lawrence Wong, Minister of State for Defence and Education announced these initiatives at the inaugural Education Innovation Conference on Friday, May 11.
He added: "This is why MOE has been pushing for higher standards in private education."
To help smaller private education institutes upgrade themselves, deputy chief executive of Spring Singapore Mr Ted Tan announced a $10 million grant that will be made available to them.
