The Ministry of Education is seeking to give schools unlimited access to the internet.
It is calling for proposals for an internet service provider that will give schools ultra-fast internet access, a help desk, firewalls and no limit on the amount of data they can download.
The Government expects what it calls the Network for Learning will improve education and cost between $300 million and $400 million over 10 years.
Internet experts say a group approach should give the schools ultra-fast broadband at a much cheaper price than individual schools could negotiate.
They say it could also improve internet deals for other people, especially by getting rid of data caps.
