Senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Zhou Yongkang has urged judicial organs at grass-roots level to provide legal consultation to the public and solve civil disputes.

Zhou, secretary of the Committee of Political and Legislative Affairs of the CPC Central Committee, made the remark at a forum held Tuesday in Beijing to review the work of grass-roots-level judicial offices.

More than 40,000 judicial offices have been set up around China for the purpose of improving the country's judicial work through providing legal consultation, helping solve disputes, offering legal aid and raise the public's law-abiding awareness through educational activities.

While praising achievements in this regard, Zhou said judicial workers should engage in publicity and try to put themselves in other people's shoes to figure out and solve legal problems.

Zhou called for more financial aid to be given to community-level judicial workers in order to encourage them to provide better services to the public.

Zhou, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, urged judicial workers at all levels to "keep clear minds" and pursue a "correct" political direction in order to defend the cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics.
