The Saenuri Party has secured a majority of seats in parliament in the 19th general elections.
The Saenuri Party won 152 of the 300 seats in the National Assembly. Overall, two-hundred-46 candidates were elected directly from their constituencies and 54 were seated through proportional representation.
The ruling party won all seats up for grabs in Daegu, North Gyeongsang Province and Gangwon Province.
The main opposition Democratic United Party (DUP) won 127 seats, including 21 through proportional representation. That’s around 50 more seats compared to the 18th general elections.
The minor Liberty Forward Party captured just five seats, down 13 seats from the 18th National Assembly.
The Unified Progressive Party (UPP) grabbed 13 seats but failed to establish a negotiation group.
The National Election Commission said the tentative voter turnout for this year’s general elections stood at 54-point-three percent, up eight-point-two percentage points from general elections in 2008.
