Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Welfare and President of the Social Security Organization said last week the number of employees gaining an access to social security system was very small.

He said that only 50,000 employees of over 700 enterprises nationwide have been covered by such system and 80 per cent of the entire beneficiaries was in Vientiane.

The Social Security Organization was established ten years ago in line with the policy of the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare.

The Social Security system is operational in Vientiane and other six provinces providing social benefits to the members who experience, for instance, birth giving, occupational accidents, illness, medical treatment and abilities.

The Social Security Organization last Friday held a meeting to review its Social Security coverage for employees of enterprises and discussed plan for next five years (2011-2015).
