Asia-Pacific Armies Meet to Discuss Security Cooperation |

Over 180 army chiefs and senior commanders from 27 countries across the Asia-Pacific are participating in the 7th Pacific Armies Chiefs Conference (PACC VII) and the 35th Pacific Armies Management Seminar (PAMS XXXV) in Singapore, beginning today. PACC VII and PAMS XXX V end on July 31 and Aug 1, respectively.
The events, co-hosted by the Singapore Army and the United States Army, were officiated by Singapore Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen at a joint opening ceremony here. Also present was Singapore''s Chief of Defence Force Lieutenant-General Neo Kian Hong.
PACC VII is co-hosted by Chief of Army Major-General Ravinder Singh and the Chief of Staff of the US Army General Martin E. Dempsey, while PAMS XXXV is co-hosted by Commander 6th Division Brigadier-General Yeo See Peng, and Commanding General US Army Pacific Lieutenant-General Francis J. Wiercinski. Among participants include army chiefs and senior commanders from Australia, China, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia and Russia.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Dr Ng said the current security landscape was marked by threats which were increasingly transnational and complex, and too large for any single country to shoulder such burden. PACC, a biennial multilateral event which began in 1999, aims to foster cooperation and dialogue among regional army chiefs. PAMS is an annual multilateral event which began in 1978, for senior officers from regional armies to exchange views and lessons learned on professional matters.$0 $0
