Tajikistan-based mobile network operators Indigo Tajikistan and Somoncom, which both operate under the Tcell banner, have reportedly begun work on formally integrating their respective operations, according to Telecompaper. It is understood that the integration process should be completed by the end of the third quarter this year.
According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Tcell has been the brand name for the combined operations of Indigo Tajikistan and Somoncom since March 2010. Prior to this the two cellcos operated as separate entities under their own respective banners, despite both having been majority owned by Sweden’s TeliaSonera since 2007. At the end of June 2011 the combined operator had a subscriber base which totalled 1.857 million, making it the country’s second largest cellco behind Babilon-M.
