According to an official statement from Bakosurtanal, the agreement aims to achieve an integration and synergy between the Ministry of Environment with Bakosurtanal in order to use Geospatial Information for Environmental Protection and Management.
The signing of the MOU was done during the launch of the National EcoRegion, an initiative which is designed to make development and space allocation plans compatible with environmental considerations.
EcoRegion is defined as geographic areas that have similar climatic characteristics, soil, water, native flora and fauna, as well as patterns of human interaction with nature that describe the integrity of natural systems and the environment.
The establishment of National Ecoregion serves as a basis for setting EcoRegions in order to identify potential problems and areas that need to be considered in the preparation of the Plan of Protection and Environmental Management
During the event, Asep Karsidi, Head of Bakosurtanal, said his office will be providing the National EcoRegion Map that will be used to monitor and preserve forests in Indonesia.
